Submission Formats

Written Submissions

Should...

  1. All submissions should be sent as attached files to covering E-mail.
  2. All files should be, where possible, zipped using PKZIP or WINZIP.
  3. All covering E-mail should include the words "DEMONGROUND SUBMISSION" in the subject line.
  4. Submissions will be accepted via E-mail only - at the following address
    demonground@demonground.org
  5. All submissions will receive an E-mail telling the author the status of their article and it's likely publishing date.
  6. All articles should be in .DOC, .RTF or .TXT format, which are usable with Microsoft Office.
  7. All graphics which are to be part of the submitted article, e.g. maps etc. should be sent as attached files with cover notes as to their location in the article.
  8. All articles should use only the following fonts, if possible - Times New Roman, Courier New or Arial.
  9. All articles MUST include the authors real name and E-mail address.
  10. All articles should be Spell-Checked prior to submission (and a grammar-check wouldn't hurt). We'll probably do it again anyway, but it's so much nicer to have the first pass on an article come up clean.
  11. Indicating sections of text as 'heading' 'italic', 'bold', or 'underline' is encouraged.
  12. Areas intended as sidebars should be marked as such within the article. Sidebars will be placed in the final layout as close to the relevant section as possible.
  13. Feel free to suggest ideas for art to accompany your article. We have a few artists available who do requests if given sufficient time. Also, feel free to send art along with your article (see graphics guidelines below).

Should NOT...

  1. Articles should not arrive pre-formatted. Don't expend a lot of effort creating something you feel is camera-ready. We cannot use it in that format, and it takes a great deal of effort to undo that kind of formatting before we can use it. Multiple columns, headers, footers, tables, color text, extraordinarily creative fonts are all examples of things that will cause us to speak ill of you while stripping it out of your submission. If you would like us to consider a specific layout for your aticle, we suggest you submit two files -- one that looks the way you want it to (we don't mind such suggestions), but you should also send one that just contains the raw text.
  2. Articles should not contain Microsoft Word TABLES. If you need to provide tabular information for your article, simply provide each 'row' of the table as tab-separated values. This is what we would have to convert it into before we can import it into the desktop-publishing software.
  3. Articles should not be submitted in HTML format. HTML may look nice on the screen, but it contains a lot of extra tag information that gets in the way of the raw text of the article.
Graphic Submissions

  2. All files should be, where possible, zipped using PKZIP or WINZIP.
  3. All covering E-mail should include the words "DEMONGROUND SUBMISSION" in the subject line.

  6. We can accept the following formats - .GIF, .BMP, .JPG, and TIF
  7. If possible, artwork should be set to a minimum resolution of 144 dots per inch.
  8. Our older-format Cover Art submissions were 19 centimeters wide by 25 centimeters tall. The newer format (established with Issue 12) images must be 14.5 centimeters wide by 22 centimeters tall.
  9. Both color and black and white artworks will be accepted.
  10. Any graphics must include the artists signature or other defining mark.
